Preschool Founder’s Day 2013

January 6, 2014

Over 80 keiki from KS’ Kalihi Pālama Preschool went holoholo up the hill to KS Kapālama’s Kekūhaupi‘o Gym to attend the campus’ Founder’s Day celebration. The December 19 event celebrated the life and legacy of Ke Aliʻi Bernice Pauahi Bishop.

The keiki were seated among KS kindergarteners and enjoyed seeing them walk into the gym with seniors during the event’s opening procession. KS preschool teachers were proud of their keiki who kept their squirming to a minimum during the hour-long program.

To prepare for the day, the keiki had been learning about Princess Pauahi and her love of children. They also learned the words and hand motions to “Pauahi, No Nakalei” which they sang alongside KSK elementary school keiki during the celebration. Upon returning to their classrooms, keiki and kumu enjoyed cake and ice cream in celebration of Pauahi’s birthday.

Mahalo to Community-Based Early Childhood Education director Terry Kelly and preschool education coordinator Deidre Harris for sharing this story with KSOnline! If your division or campus has pics to share, please send them along with background information and captions to miyoung@ksbe.edu.
