In keeping with a tradition started at Kamehameha Schools Maui in 2005, the divisions of the campus celebrated Pō‘alima ‘Ula‘ula, or Red Friday, on October 17.
The first Pō‘alima ‘Ula‘ula took place in 2005 as the verdict for the Doe vs. Kamehameha Schools decision was being awaited. Now occurring twice a year, Pō‘alima ‘Ula‘ula helps KS Maui students, faculty and staff members foster cultural pride and unity among Hawaiians and raise awareness about current Hawaiian issues.
The events are also an important reminder that KS will continue to protect the educational legacy of its founder Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, which includes her wish to give preference to Hawaiian children.
Mahalo nui to high school Student Activities Coordinator Naomi Ashman and middle school librarian Marcus Seraphine for sharing photos of the events.
