Our Kakaʻako Mele and Art event includes tribute to Lahaina

August 29, 2023

Hundreds of people gathered on ʻĀina Pauahi Saturday, August 19, for the first-ever Mele and Art event at Our Kakaʻako. It was a chance for people to experience art in a hands-on, interactive way – while also listening to beautiful Hawaiian mele. A sidewalk served as a canvas for a chalk artist who created a banyan tree similar to the iconic one in the heart of Lahaina. Others were given the opportunity to use the chalk to write messages and make other creations in honor of the Maui wildfire victims. Donations for the KS Hoʻōla fund were collected at the event.
