Onipaʻa and Mai Poina

September 11, 2013

Thousands of kamaʻāina and malihini came together recently to commemorate the 175th birthday of Queen Liliʻuokalani, the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi.

Nearly 2,000 people attended the September 1 Onipaʻa celebration at ʻIolani Palace – featuring entertainment, exhibits, food and palace tours – and 1,250 signed up for 16 Mai Poina walking tours retracing the pivotal days leading up to the overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy. The events were planned and coordinated by the Hawai‘i Pono‘ī Coalition, a consortium of Native Hawaiian-serving organizations including Kamehameha Schools.

Mahalo to KS photographer Michael Young who was on hand to capture the highlights of the events. Read the whole story in the KSOnline article.

If your division or campus has pics to share, please send them along with background information and captions to miyoung@ksbe.edu.
