Kumulipo art exhibit runs at Midkiff through Oct. 14

September 21, 2016

In collaboration with Midkiff Learning Center, the new ninth grade kauhale (small learning community) provided students with the opportunity to gain insight about the Kumulipo, the Hawaiian creation chant. The learning took place through interaction with the gallery exhibit “Kumulipo Mai Kinohi A Mua – From the Origins to the Future” as well as guest speakers and hands-on activities.

The exhibit which will run through October 14, 2017 features work from Kamehameha Schools Kapālama K through12 haumāna as well as community artists. Featured artist Solomon Enos shared about his work in discussion sessions. Artists Kahi Ching and harinani orme also interacted with students to provide insight.

Later in the day, students explored the resources in Midkiff Learning Center by completing projects in digital media in the TV studio, photography in the dark room, graphic arts in the Student Production Center and poetry in the Hawaʻiʻ Pacific Collection.

KS Photographer Michael Young was on hand to capture the highlights of the student experience.
