Mālama honua lesson by KS Hawai‘i grounds crew

April 16, 2015

Recently, members of the Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i grounds crew spent time with kula ha‘aha‘a haumāna (elementary school students), sharing how they practice mālama honua (to care for the Island Earth) through their hard work on campus each day.

The visit was part of one of the school’s student-led conference days, when teachers try to engage students by providing lessons that are out of the ordinary.

“The learning experience was very powerful because these students see these uncles every day and now they finally get the opportunity to learn from them,” said Liana Honda, elementary school hope po‘o kumu (vice principal).

The experience was so positive that the school will look for opportunities to build upon it and incorporate more operations staff into future lessons. View details of the day on the elementary school blog.
