KS Hawai’i ‘Aha Makahiki

December 30, 2013

As the new year approaches, it's always good to remember that the Hawaiian new year or Makahiki has already begun.

Students and staff at the Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i campus celebrated the new makahiki in late November with an ‘Aha Makahiki. The theme of the gathering was ʻImi Ola which means "To Seek Life."  All of the events, activities and workshops throughout the day connected back to the concept of seeking life and the importance of life.

This event was planned and made possible by volunteers from the campus' Student ʻAha Makahiki Papa Alakaʻi 2013. Visit the ‘Aha Makahiki 2013 website for more information.

Mahalo to Hawaiian history and culture kumu Keali‘i Akina for sharing the following photos and captions. If your division or campus has pics to share, please send them along with background information and captions to KS photographer Michael Young at miyoung@ksbe.edu.
