KS Maui’s Pōʻalima ʻUla’ula

February 9, 2015

Students, staff, and guest speakers stood together, sang, and performed the hula kuhi lima (hula using only hand motions) of the mele, "Kaulana Nā Pua," also known as "Mele ʻAi Pōhaku." During the day all were treated to a variety of guest speakers who shared a deeper mana'o about this mele. Today and always, we strengthen the kahua, the foundation of our Kula Hawaiʻi.

The speakers for the day included Dr. Kaiwipuni Lipe, Kūkini Suwa, Kamuela Yim, Hauʻoli Akaka, Kēhau Peʻa, Kiliʻohu Thomas, Jessie-Ellen Kekiwi-Aweau and Pōmaikaʻi Kaniaupio-Crozier. Kumu Hula Sissy Lake-Farm and Kumu ʻIliahi Paredes joined KS Maui Hui Kumu to teach the hula.
