KS Kapālama’s 2013 culminating physical education event was held at Ala Moana Beach Park on Friday, May 10, with 231 students completing a 10k run, 133 completing a 3k swim, and 371 completing a biathlon that consisted of a swim of one length of Ala Moana Beach and two laps running around the beach park.
A group of four freshmen boys were the top finishers in the 10k. Micah McNicoll, Micah Kealaiki-Sales, Evan Iwanaga and Isaiah Arikawa all finished with a time of 46:41.Taryn Mata was the top female finisher, at 52:34. Hoanu Ho was the top male finisher in the 3k swin, at 49:49, with Hope Ushiroda-Garma finishing just a second behind him as the top female finisher. Kanoa Kaleoaloha was the top finisher in the sophomore biathlon with an impressive time of 41:54, more than six minutes faster than any other sophomore. Kiana St. Onge was the top female biathlon finisher at 51:29.
Along with the students, many KS staff members also completed the events, including KS Kapālama po‘o kula Earl Kim, KS trustee Micah Kane, and numerous KS Kapālama teachers.
