KS Kapālama HS Makahiki and Food Drive

November 16, 2016

The Kamehameha Schools Kapālama High School Character and Christian Education and Athletics departments recently teamed up to produce the biggest Makahiki games and canned food drive in the history of the campus! Freshman and seniors brought canned goods to donate to the Hawaii Food Bank. The goal was to collect 2,017 pounds of food to honor this year's graduating class and to send a powerful message that KS cares about the community. After all the food was weighed, haumāna learned that they surpassed their goal and actually donated 2,381 pounds of food to feed Hawai‘i's hungry!

After a brief assembly in Kekūhaupi‘o Gym the students headed up to the campus stadium for the Makahiki games. Freshman and senior homerooms were paired up to form new hui, or teams. Traditionally Makahiki is a time of rest, renewal and rejuvenation. This Makahiki was also a time to cultivate friendships and strengthen the bonds between fellow students.

KS photographer Michael Young was on hand to capture the highlights of the events.
