IT Operations cultural team building

November 20, 2014

The Information Technology Operations staff recently took part in a team-building week with a focus on Hawaiian culture. Cultural specialists Hauʻoli Akaka and Kehau Pea from KS’ Ho‘okahua Hawaiian Cultural Vibrancy Group helped acquaint the techies with Hawaiian history, traditions and skills.

Their cultural activities included making ti leaf lei, learning about Kamehameha Schools and its namesake, creating and presenting a hoʻokupu (ceremonial gift), and creating a kihei (garment worn over one shoulder and tied in a knot).

They even got a taste of ‘ono (delicious) Hawaiian food from Highway Inn – one of KS’ Kakaʻako tenants. Their week culminated with the presentation of their hoʻokupu at the King Kamehameha statue at Aliʻiolani Hale.

The IT Operations team, under the management of Trevor Berry, supports the daily operations of KS computing systems including servers, applications, databases, and enterprise support systems.  Mahalo to Senior Database Administrator Linda Lorentz Fletcher for sharing the information and photos for this story.
