KS’ culture-based summer programs are in full swing statewide! The programs are aimed at students who are not currently enrolled in Kamehameha Schools.
Oʻahu’s Hoʻomākaʻikaʻi – the oldest and largest of the programs – teaches soon-to-be sixth graders about Hawaiian history and culture through hands-on learning. Activities during the one-week boarding program include trips to historic places, working in a loʻi kalo (irrigated taro patch), fishpond restoration, mele, hula and more.
Six Hoʻomākaʻikaʻi sessions are held each summer at the KS Kapālama campus. Since its inception in 1968, the program has educated over 50,000 students.
