Keiki from Kamehameha Schools’ Heʻeia Preschool recently visited KS Kapālama for swimming lessons from the campus’ aquatics staff. The children learned the basics of kicking, floating, blowing bubbles, dipping their heads into the water, and doing a crawl swim across the pool. Some of the children’s parents swam alongside their keiki.
The visit coincided with classroom lessons on malama kai/wai – taking care of the sea and water – which includes safe swimming. The visit to the wai in the pool was followed by a visit to the kai at the beach.
KS preschool classes are welcome to visit the campus for basic swimming lessons and free swimming when the aquatics staff members and facilities are available. To schedule a visit, email Aquatics Supervisor Ben Nary at benary@ksbe.edu
Mahalo to Papa Kalo teacher Kanani Manoa and teaching assistant Alexis McElroy for sharing the photos below. If your division or campus has pics to share, please send them along with background information and captions to ksonline@ksbe.edu.
