State recognizes nationally certified teachers

February 4, 2013

Twenty KS teachers recently achieved certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Two of them – literacy resource specialist Krista Nielson and literacy lead teacher Arianne Lerner – were on hand at the state capitol as Gov. Neil Abercrombie recognized Hawai‘i’s 66 newly certified private and public school teachers.

In addition to supporting its own teachers through the certification process, KS also helped public school teachers achieve the designation by serving as candidate support providers for the DOE cohort. National board certification is achieved upon successful completion of a voluntary assessment program which includes the submission of portfolios that include student work, assignments, and a teaching analysis.
