Kamehameha Schools was founded by the will of Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the great-granddaughter of Kamehameha the Great.

Celebrations for Founder's Day were held throughout the state at various sites, honoring Ke Ali‘i Pauahi, including the three Kamehameha Schools campuses and at many of the Kamehameha Schools preschool sites.
