The inaugural Culture-based Education Conference and Hawaiian Education Summit sponsored by Kamehameha Schools recently welcomed over 600 attendees. The July 8-11 event at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center was the state's first large scale, formal gathering of educators, advocates and practitioners of Hawaiian-focused culture-based education.
Organized and coordinated by KS' Kauhale Kipaipai department, the conference welcomed attendees from across the pae ‘āina (island chain) to Honolulu to discuss ways to make learning relevant and relatable for keiki. The conference's theme was "Ho‘ōla a‘e i nā pualei (Lifting our learners to newer heights)."
