Staff and guests celebrated the opening of the Hawaiian Cultural Center, Ka‘iwakīloumoku, on the Kapālama Campus. Special guests included the Hawaiian Royal Societies and the royal families of Tahiti and Aotearoa.
Students learned more about the center's offerings during open house tours over several days. Classes in Hawaiian arts, crafts and food preparation will be available.
The Community Education and Services Division met recently to celebrate accomplishments and plan goals for the future. Kamehameha Scholars Counselor Kimo Chun looks over a chart that explains the values and behaviors of students who participate in civic engagement activities within KS extension programs.
KS offers Early Reading Screening at the Community Learning Center at Nānākuli. Darlene Robertson from Assets School works with Jordan Lee to assess his reading ability.

A drive around the Kapālama Campus reveals areas of beauty just around the corner.
Construction on KS's 680 Ala Moana building in Kaka‘ako is nearing completion. The building will provide convenient high ceiling apartments near the beaches and Ala Moana Center. Just on the other side of the building, Starbucks Coffee is now open for business.
Eat the Street in Kaka‘ako continues every month and draws area workers and residents in large numbers to sample the goods from dozens of food trucks.
