Bidding aloha to Dee Jay Mailer - KS Maui

February 11, 2014

The KS Maui ʻohana surrounded soon-to-retire CEO Dee Jay Mailer with heartfelt aloha and a sea of red at the campus’ annual Pōʻalima ʻUlaʻula (Red Friday), a day of Hawaiian unity.

Over 1,200 campus employees and students filled the Ka‘ulaheanuiokamoku Gymnasium to honor Mailer for her 10 years of service and bid her a fond “Ā hui hou” (Until we meet again) as she embarks on her journey of retirement.

As one of their gifts to Mailer, K through 12 students, faculty and staff members learned the hula, “ʻAuʻa ʻIa” and presented it along with other makana to bid farewell and aloha to their beloved alakaʻi. Haumāna and kumu gave one last makana to Mailer - the Electric Slide - and she joyously joined in!

The event closed with kahu Kalani Wong leading the KSM ʻohana in prayer for Mailer and her husband Donny as they begin the next chapter of their lives together. As they left the gym, haumāna lined up to give Mailer hugs goodbye. Read more about the event on the campus' student news site "Ka Leo o na Koa."

Mahalo nui loa to KS Maui High School student activities coordinator Naomi Ashman for sharing these photos with KSOnline. If your division or campus has pics to share, please send them along with background information and captions to ksonline@ksbe.edu.
