In a sincere gathering filled with gratitude and appreciation, Kamehameha staffers recently bid a hui hou to Trustee Lance Keawe Wilhelm KSK’83, who had dedicated ten years of service to the Kamehameha Schools. Trustee Wilhelm brought an extraordinary combination of his many years in leadership and vast life experiences to KS. His ʻike and passion brought a level of trust in the boardroom. A warrior through and through, Trustee Crystal Rose KSK’75 remarked, “Lance has an unwavering affection and aloha for Kamehameha Schools, embracing everything it stands for: our lāhui, culture, ʻāina, and, most importantly, the people who work here.”
To honor Wilhelm’s immense contributions, Manu Boyd KSK’80 composed a mele dedicated to him on behalf of the Kamehameha Schools ‘ohana at Kawaiaha‘o Plaza.
“Keawe ‘Oe o Kamehameha” is a heartfelt tribute to Trustee Wilhelm. Bright red, orange, purple, green, and gold hues are woven together in this mele lei wehi homage. “Lance is a man of substance and passion,” CEO Jack Wong said. “That’s important because, in our world, it’s not about flash. When we talk about Trustee Wilhelm’s accomplishments, a lot of it has to do with substance, the things he brings to this institution. I know what Lance really cares about is creating a sustainable organization, creating a place where a hundred years from now, we can be proud of the work we did for a long time,” he added.
As Trustee Wilhelm departs, his impact on Kamehameha Schools remains imprinted on its foundation, inspiring current and future employees to continue the vital work of Ke Aliʻi Pauahi into perpetuity.
