June 14, 2022
From Hilo to Honolulu, Kamehameha Schools honored its namesake, Kamehameha ‘Ekahi and great-grandfather of founder Ke Ali‘i Bernice Pauahi Bishop, during several events as part of the 2022 King Kamehameha Day Celebration and 150th anniversary of the holiday. Representatives from across the KS organization took part in the annual Lei Draping Ceremony on Friday, June 10 at Aliʻiōlani Hale in Honolulu, presenting a 30-foot garland created by the hands of many Kawaiaha‘o Plaza staffers. Other festivities included the 105th Anniversary King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade, which featured everyone from KS Cultural Specialist Kēhau Peʻa as pāʻū queen to our littlest learners and their ‘ohana cheering down the parade route in a decorated trolly. On Hawaiʻi Island, members of the KS 'ohana took part in an intimate lei draping ceromony at the King Kamehameha Statue in Hilo. Mahalo to those across the organizaiton for your contributions to this festive album.
