The 34th annual KS Kāpalama Elementary School Jump Rope for Heart Jump-a-thon recently raised more than $57,000 for the American Heart Association!
Native Hawaiians are at high risk for heart attacks and strokes. Each year, students from kindergarten to sixth grade raise money for the Heart Association through pledges from family and friends.
The community project was started by retired P.E. teacher Mary Jo Freshley to promote health and to combat heart disease. According to current P.E. teacher Lynn McDonald the event has raised more than $1 million since its inception.
