2015 King Kamehameha Celebration

June 16, 2015

KS staffers and students honored Kamehameha Schools' namesake during the annual King Kamehameha Celebration from June 12-14. This year’s events honored the creator of the celebration, Lot Kapuaiwa – Kamehameha V.

KS leaders and others attended the Kamehameha Statue Lei Draping and presented a 30-foot haku lei crafted by employees. The fragrant lei was made with greens gathered on Kamehameha land. The KSK High School Marching Band, led by Assistant Band Director Matt Kalei Urabe, entertained locals and visitors as part of the annual King Kamehameha Floral Parade.

Planning and coordinating the activities was a kākou effort. Mahalo to the Kamehameha Celebration committee members: Adele Flores, Alohikulani Du Pont, Bernie Wong, Coleen Kaʻanehe, Diedre Maika, Julie Kawakami, Kapalaiʻula de Silva, Kelii Okamoto, Lori Apuna, Manu Boyd, Melissa Ibrao, and Stacy Rosehill-Baker.

Kudos also go to the staffers of the Office of the CEO and Trustees, Cultural Vibrancy, Internal Audit, Pauahi Foundation, Campus Education, Legal, and Administration groups for helping with the activities.

KS photographers Nadine Lagaso and Ed Subia captured the highlights of the events in the photos below.
