The staff believes that this wellness is the foundation that grows, inspires and keeps its community healthy. The school hopes to create a safe space that becomes an extended ‘ohana, a place where students belong, and with teachers who are always ready to welcome them in.
“Windward Mall is pleased to welcome Kapena School of Music & Creative Expression to the Center,” said Cesar Topacio, general manager of Windward Mall. “We are excited to be home to another amazing local business raising up a new generation of artists and bringing beautiful music to our community.”
In Hawaiian, Kapena means “captain,” showing leadership and strength and woven with legacy, tradition, history and years of creativity. Kapena School of Music & Creative Expression hopes to carry this name forward to continue a legacy, bring more tradition, create new history and inspire the next generation to learn so that one day, they can teach.
“Our dream is to create a school with no limits, boundaries, or judgments; a place for the arts where people of all ages and backgrounds can freely create,” said Kalenaku DeLima, president of Kapena School of Music & Creative Expression. “Our school has a mission. We build confidence, and help to realize one's purpose. We constantly grow and learn as we teach, receiving as we give. We are kind. We are compassionate, and above all, we are brave.”
