Windward Mall Receives Two International Industry Awards

Windward Mall was recently recognized at the 2021 International Innovating Commerce Serving Communities (ICSC) MAXI and Visual Victories Award presentation with several awards. Windward Mall won a 2021 ICSC MAXI Silver Award for the “Shining Bright Holiday Celebration” in the Experiential category and a 2021 ICSC Visual Victories Award in the Most Creative Temporary Store Design category for Kanile’a ‘Ukulele. The official announcement was made virtually during the 2021 ICSC MAXI and Visual Victories Award presentation.

“We are honored and thrilled to have won both award nominations as this is the first time Windward Mall has won a MAXI and Visual Victories Award,” said Cesar Topacio, vice president-retail management and general manager at Windward Mall.

The MAXI Awards recognize innovative events, programs, and technology that add value to shopping centers and companies across the United States and Canada. The categories are designed to recognize the evolution of the industry while rewarding creativity and innovation.

“Ho‘omaika‘i to the Windward Mall management team and tenant ‘ohana for providing these safe and carefully planned programs for this vibrant community,” said Gary Evora, Kamehameha Schools commercial real estate senior asset manager.

The MAXI Experiential award highlighted an immersive initiative, event, technology or program designed to enhance the overall customer experience and captivate shoppers. It had to drive foot traffic and engagement while heightening brand awareness and affinity. Windward Mall’s goal for its 2020 holiday experience was to carry that tradition forward and create a unique and festive COVID-19 safe holiday event. The first-ever Shining Bright Holiday Celebration lit up Center Court three times a night with an 8-minute synchronized music, laser and light show linked to its 25-foot Christmas tree. It drew a crowd of about 75 to 100 spectators per show and was mentioned multiple times in local media. The event partnered with merchants including 24 VII Danceforce, Kanile‘a ‘Ukulele and Hickam Federal Credit Union.

ICSC’s Visual Victories Awards Program is a visual merchandising competition specifically created for cart, kiosk, and temporary in-line retailers. The annual competition recognizes the outstanding work done by exceptional visual merchandisers, retailers, and specialty leasing agents.

"These awards showcase our commitment to enhance the Windward Mall community," said Alex Kirley, vice president, regional marketing manager at JLL. "We are truly proud of our management team's efforts in developing these programs, to not only attract, but enhance the overall customer experience. Programs such as these are the cornerstone of Windward Mall’s success."
