Ring in the Lunar New Year at SALT at Our Kakaʻako with Dynamic Lion Dance and Martial Arts Demonstration

The community is invited to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit at SALT at Our Kaka‘ako on Saturday, January 21, 2023, beginning at 11 a.m. Lunar New Year festivities kick off with a martial arts demonstration in the courtyard, followed by a traditional Chinese Lion Dance by the Asian Lion Dance Team. There will also be appearances by 2023 Miss Chinatown Hawaii, Star Dahl-Thurston, and 2023 Miss Hawaii Chinese, Agnes Santiano, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The family-friendly event is free to attend.

The Asian Lion Dance Team has delighted spectators with their Chinese lion dances since 1994. The team’s colorful dancing lion will make its way through the shops, restaurants and businesses at SALT at Our Kaka‘ako. They will be fed donations in red envelopes, known as lai see (lucky money), believed to bring prosperity to the giver throughout the year.

Those attending the Lunar New Year celebration are encouraged to enjoy a meal with friends and family at any one of the center’s many eateries before or after the event. All are invited to spend the afternoon visiting SALT’s diverse lineup of unique retail shops and businesses.
