Our Kaka‘ako is kicking off the New Year with Bark in the Park, a free, family-friendly outdoor event for pet lovers on Saturday, January 22, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Kaloko‘eli Courtyard in Keawe Retail, located at 444 Keawe St., near H Mart. Open to the public, this fun event will host pet-focused wellness classes, a photo op wall, and pop-up retail and nonprofit organizations, including Aloha Crisps, the Hawaiian Humane Society, the Community Kōkua Foundation, and PORTS + PAWS.
“Pets have a positive impact on people’s health and well-being, and we’re especially fond of them in Our Kaka‘ako, where we have pet-friendly residences, restaurants, and businesses,” said Serge Krivatsy, Kamehameha Schools commercial real estate director of planning and development. “These continue to be challenging times for many, and we wanted our first event of 2022 to uplift the community and bring people and their pets together safely outdoors for fun, healthy, and educational activities.”
On the lawn, Orangetheory Fitness Kaka‘ako has planned special pet workout classes where participants and their dogs can navigate an obstacle course together. Spots are limited to 20 per class, so those interested need to sign up online at www.ourkakaako.com/barkinthepark. Additionally, the Community Kōkua Foundation For Fire Safety And Recovery will host talk story sessions and have a booth to promote pet fire safety through the Eddy Project. To round off the event, various Our Kaka‘ako restaurants and bars will have Yappy Hour specials.
