World-famous Haleʻiwa Store Lots tenant, Matsumoto Shave Ice, marks its 72nd anniversary on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, inviting the community to join the celebration. The iconic and wildly popular family-owned and -operated business has been delighting kamaʻāina and visitors since 1951. Its signature frozen treat features finely shaved ice, homemade syrups and unique extras, such as mochi, azuki beans and vanilla ice cream.

For one day only, Matsumoto Shave Ice is offering the following promotions to celebrate its anniversary:

Customers can purchase a small plain shave ice for $1 each, plus tax. (Any three shave ice flavors. Does not include extras.)
Customers who purchase a shave ice will be given a scratch-off card (while supplies last). Ten (10) lucky winners will receive a $50 Matsumoto Shave Ice gift card!
Customers who spend $100 or more in the Matsumoto Shave Ice gift shop will get a free mini shave ice puzzle.
Customers can purchase a limited-edition 72nd anniversary t-shirts (designed by Kyle Shimabukuro of HiLife) for just $10, plus tax.

“We invite everyone to come out and help us celebrate this special occasion,” said Remy Matsumoto, a third-generation family member who proudly continues the family business today. “With so much that has changed over the decades, we are very thankful that the local community and visitors continue to enjoy our humble offering.”

Matsumoto Shave Ice was originally founded by Mamoru and Helen Matsumoto as a grocery store in Haleʻiwa. A large following of regulars would line up at the establishment every day once they began serving refreshing shave ice with a rainbow of colorful syrup flavors to complete each cone. Generations of Matsumoto family members continued the family legacy, eventually converting from groceries to t-shirts, souvenirs and snacks, to go along with the shave ice. Today, the store produces more than 1,000 shave ice cones on any given warm, sunny day.

“We’re proud to have the one and only Matsumoto Shave Ice location right here at our unique plantation-style center,” said Eric Ogata, senior asset manager at Kamehameha Schools. “Haleʻiwa Store Lots is home to many locally-owned businesses that play a vital role in serving kamaʻāina and visitors to the North Shore. We wish the Matsumoto ʻohana best wishes for their much continued success!”

Matsumoto Shave Ice is located alongside many other great retailers, restaurants and businesses at Hale‘iwa Store Lots. After enjoying the festivities at Matsumoto Shave Ice, guests can wander through the center to find local treasures, such as island wear, jewelry, art, and more. Or, they can grab a bite to eat at Island Vintage Coffee, Rajanee Thai Haleiwa, Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, or Uncle Bo’s Pupu Bar & Grill, among other tasty options.
