Honolulu Night Market Returns to Our Kaka‘ako Saturday Nov. 19

Our Kaka‘ako is hosting Honolulu Night Market: Rooted just in time for the holidays on Saturday, November 19, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Keawe St. and Auahi St. The event’s theme, “Rooted,” focuses on the importance of supporting Hawai‘i’s food system and celebrating cultural diversity grounded in the values of our heritage, traditions, and placekeeping.

The community street fair will feature a diversity of local food vendors, artisans, and cultural practitioners. The Poi for the People initiative will offer educational demonstrations and samples of pa‘i‘ai (traditionally pounded cooked kalo root) to showcase this indigenous food systems product. As well as supporting our local eateries, there will be mainstay activities including a fashion show, live music by up-and-coming performers, local retailers, and more.

Adding to the festivities this holiday season, Our Kaka‘ako has selected the nonprofit AccesSurf to highlight their work of empowering people with disabilities through accessible beach and water programs. AccesSurf will have a booth with information, games, and activities where people can enter to win prizes, including two roundtrip tickets to the mainland courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines. AccesSurf program participants will also be featured as models in the event fashion show.

“We are excited to welcome everyone back for a celebration of community this holiday season,” said Gary Evora, Kamehameha Schools commercial real estate senior asset manager. “During this time of giving, we are inspired to focus on our food, culture, and values rooted in our ‘āina. Our Kaka‘ako is delighted to host the Honolulu Night Market, which encourages the support of local businesses, artists and entrepreneurs, as well as nonprofit organizations like AccesSurf that are making a difference in our community.”

More than 50 local food and retail vendors will offer a wide selection of island cuisine and crafts alongside a fun lineup of live entertainment and activities.
