KS, UH and Chaminade unveil the Hālau ʻĪnana ma Kapaʻakea educational facility in Mōʻiliʻili

Hālau ʻĪnana ma Kapaʻakea programs will focus on Hawaiian leadership development, social entrepreneurship, and innovation to support students as they transition from high school to college and onto careers.

The collaborative learning space includes a ground-floor meeting area.

A mezzanine provides additional space for learning and innovation.

Honolulu - (August 18, 2017) – Kamehameha Schools celebrates the completion of a $1.2M renovation in Mō‘ili‘ili transforming the former auto parts store into a vision for an innovative collaborative space that fosters educational opportunities and success for the lāhui.

Kamehameha Schools forges strategic partnerships to elevate education in Hawai‘i. The University of Hawai‘i, Chaminade University of Honolulu, Moonshot Laboratory Hawai‘i, Ho‘okele Strategies and Oceanit serve as key strategic partners to open Hālau ‘Īnana.

“By focusing on SP2020, Kamehameha Schools spearheads a forward-thinking movement in Hawai‘i and consistently peruses new educational opportunities.” said Stacy Clayton, Kamehameha Schools executive strategy consultant. “Hālau ‘Īnana is a pilot space to proof-point Kamehameha Schools’ work as a thoughtful community partner. The program’s multiple returns approach allows education, culture and commerce to co-exist, promoting unique and synergistic learning opportunities.”

Hālau ‘Īnana is located next to the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i at 2438 South Beretania in Mō‘ili‘ili, on Kamehameha Schools’ lands. Programs will focus on three areas which include leadership development, social entrepreneurship and innovation. The ultimate end goal of Hālau ‘Īnana is to support educational progress and career readiness, rooted in cultural perspectives and limitless in its innovation.

“Hālau ‘Īnana aims to disrupt and transform education and career development by providing a rich environment where kūpuna wisdom meets horizon technologies so that new knowledge creation, resource sharing, innovation prototyping and incubation can thrive,” said Clayton.
