Kealapono

We believe that culture drives student success

Kealapono provides Hawaiian culture-based education (HCBE) to reach more learners and communities. By mobilizing community collaborators across the state, we take innovation to scale, working alongside communities to create Hawaiian culture-based educational opportunities.

Our approach harnesses our cultural foundation, educational best practices and passion for the serving the lāhui in pursuit of KS’ mission: to fulfill Ke Aliʻi Pauahi’s desire to create educational opportunities in perpetuity to improve the capability and well-being for those of Native Hawaiian ancestry.

Across our efforts, we deliver measurable results to better serve learners and track progress to KS’ Strategic Plan 2020. Some of our notable efforts:

  • Collaborations with over 26 DOE and charter schools
  • Expansion of in-school and out-of-school HCBE programs
  • Launching ʻohana engagement efforts across our programs to leverage ‘ohana as true partners in education
  • Utilizing more wahi pana and KS lands as education opportunities - and as a driver for culture-based professional development
  • Evolution of data tools and evaluation methods to be more culturally-responsive in alignment to HCBE
