For the first time, a Tri-Campus Kauhale Band Festival was held on our campus, blending bands from KS Hawaiʻi, Maui, and Kapālama, along with our Alumni/Community band for a wonderful night of music.
On Thursday, February 26, Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi hosted a very special tri-campus band concert featuring bands from both of our sister campuses Kapālama and Maui playing alongside our Kula Waena, Kula Kiʻekiʻe, and our Kauhale Alumni/Community band. It was a wonderful night of music, which also featured beautiful hula from our Kula Kiʻekiʻe Hawaiian Ensemble.
Along with each participating band’s director, we also had special guest conductors including California Polytechnic University Pomona's Dr. Rickey Badua (also a KSK alum) and UH Hilo’s Dr. Ocean Akaka who shared the exciting news that the university will soon bring back band to its campus and open up new opportunities (and hopefully some scholarships) for students who love concert band but want to stay home for college.

Hoʻomaikaʻi to all of the performers, directors, and guest conductors involved in our 2026 Kauhale Band Festival! Mahalo to all of the makua and kumu who helped make it happen, and to all of the alumni who volunteered to be a part of this special musical gathering! If you would be interested in joining our Kamehameha Schools Tri-Campus Alumni Band, contact Mr. Harris at wiharris@ksbe.edu or keep a look out for our call for participants.
Tri-campus and guest band directors capture a moment following the performance.
Bands were also joined by our Kula Kiʻekiʻe Hawaiian Ensemble for a number of songs, adding a beautiful depth to the performance.
