Kamehameha Schools was founded by the will of Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the great-granddaughter of Kamehameha the Great.
The Mālama Honua voyage heads back northwards through the inland water system towards Canada.

On the journey to Canada, the Hōkūleʻa will pass through 52 locks, a complex waterway system used for raising and lowering watercraft between bodies of water of different levels on rivers and waterways.
