On April 11, Kula Haʻahaʻa hosted an ʻOhana Night entitled “Who You? An evening of social emotional learning(SEL).

It was an opportunity for parents to learn more about one of the bigger trends in education, why it matters for their keiki and how our kula is implementing lessons and activities around SEL.

The night was broken into three parts -

  • Opening and Overview of Mauli Hawaiʻi - why social-emotional learning matters, how it relates to our E Ola! Learning Outcomes and an exercise in being vulnerable for parents to challenge themselves in an SEL situation.
  • Self-Regulation - elementary school counselors Tim Kudo and Tracy Kaneakua shared more about self-regulation and the different activities taking place at kula haʻahaʻa to help with this important aspect of social-emotional learning.
  • Post-High Success - high school counselors Donna Mahuna, Jo-Lyn Mehau, Derek Nekoba, and Jan Ching spoke with our parents about the SEL skills important so students can excel and reach the goals they set for themselves.

All three videos are available on this page or on our YouTube playlist.

Mahalo nui to all of our ʻohana who were able to make the time to join us that evening. Please keep a look out for future events on this and other important topics to your keiki’s development.
