Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha school sites and offices on Hawaiʻi Island will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 24, and Friday, Sept. 25, due to Tropical Storm Nolo. Closures will extend to Maui Nui school sites and offices on Friday, Sept. 25. This decision is intended to provide for the safety of our haumāna, ʻohana, and employees, and follows state and county government closures. Hawaiʻi Island and Maui Nui staff will hear from their respective leaders with further guidance regarding work situations during the closures.

Tropical Storm Nolo is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Thursday night and could make its closest approach to Hawaiʻi Island on Saturday, bringing the potential for strong winds, large and damaging waves, heavy rain, and flooding. Heavy rain is expected across Hawaiʻi Island and Maui through the weekend, with the potential for life-threatening flooding and mudslides.

Our Kapālama campus, and preschool sites and offices on Kauaʻi and Oʻahu will remain open. Individual Kamehameha sites will communicate directly with their communities any adjustments to operations due to storm conditions.

Please take time to prepare and mālama your ʻohana and communities. We encourage you to review emergency plans, gather essential supplies, and monitor official weather sources.
