Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha is closely monitoring the storm system currently south of the pae ʻāina that is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Nolo later today and potentially develop into a major hurricane over the next few days. Based on current forecasts, the system could make its closest approach to Hawaiʻi Island on Saturday, increasing the risk of strong winds, high surf, heavy rain, and flooding.

The National Weather Service indicates that a Hurricane or Tropical Storm Watch may be required for part of the pae ʻāina later today. Hawaiʻi and Maui counties will be under a Flood Watch from noon today through Saturday afternoon.
