Get your tickets for Hōʻike 2025: ʻEmalani

March 11, 2025

Originally performed by the Hawaiʻi Youth Opera Chorus in 2014, ʻEMALANI: Scenes from the Life of Queen Emma is an opera written by kumu Herb Mahelona and will be this year's Kula Kiʻekiʻe Hōʻike.

The opera spans the entire life of Queen Emma and highlights many significant events in her life and in the history of Hawaiʻi. It is presented in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and English. It is our high school's sixth original Hawaiian opera performance. Senior Brooklynn Lumanlan will portray Queen Emma with senior Jhayden Mata portraying King Kamehameha IV Alexander Liholiho.

Hōʻike is a special tradition of the Kamehameha Hawaiʻi high school, sharing moʻolelo from our history in dynamic and entertaining ways. Hōʻike 2025 will be presented to the public twice, on Thursday, March 13 and Friday, March 14 in our Koaiʻa Gymnasium. Shows will start at 6 p.m. Tickets are now available on our Kamehameha Hawaiʻi GoFan page.

For the second year in a row, Hōʻike will also feature a class competition which includes the singing of a mele and staging of a hula within the performance. The reigning champions are our current senior class, Kaʻiwahoʻokelewaʻa, the class of 2025. The class competition winner will be announced following the Night 2 performance.
