The Science of Mosquito Management

May 11, 2016

Contributed by Jamie Kawamoto

Grade 7 seven science students were treated to a presentation by the Public Health Preparedness Planning Office.  Marc Nishimoto, Sara Routley and Thalia Gaxiola presented an informational board on how to control mosquitoes.  As part of the program, students got to feed mosquito larvae to guppies to see the effectiveness of fish in controlling mosquitoes.  Students are now tasked with going to their homes and looking for mosquito larvae to bring back and feed to the guppies in our class.  After the collection of larvae, they will be dumping out water that is sitting still anywhere around their homes to create a safer environment!
