Student Government Officially Inducted

Aug. 25, 2017

Contributed by Thomas Jones

Friday marked a special day as the elected officials of the student government for each class were inducted into their positions. Haumāna campaigned for a week and gave campaign speeches.  Voting by grade level was conducted this week.  The induction ceremony was conducted during each lunch period; each officer signed a certificate promising to their classmates that they would uphold their duties as elected officials. The certificates were also signed by the Poʻo Kumu Nishikawa (principal), Hope Poʻo Kumu Binkie (vice principal), Kumu Eva and their class advisor kumu. Each officer received a pin and a kukui nut lei. The different colors of the lei represented the officersʻ experiences and challenges ahead:  6th graders received the white kukui lei, 7th graders received the brown lei, and the darkest lei were presented to the 8th graders. Hoʻomaikaʻi to our elected student government officers!
