Student-athletes make splash, perform swimmingly at states

A pair of student-athletes from KS Kapālama collected individual gold medals at the HHSAA/K. Mark Takai Swimming and Diving State Championships on Saturday at Kihei Aquatic Complex.

Junior Shaye Story won the girls 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 53.54 seconds) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.87).

Senior Noa Copp claimed the 50-yard freestyle in a personal-best mark of 21 seconds, and also won the 100-yard freestyle in 45.98 seconds.

Copp also notched a 20.91-second pace in the third leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay, which the KS boys team won in 1:29.58. The winning relay squad also included seniors Devin Alejado and Dane-Kaulukou-Chang as well as sophomore Nash Brandon.

The KSK boys squad finished second overall behind Punahou, while the girls team secured third place after all 26 individual events were completed.
