Kamehameha Schools was founded by the will of Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the great-granddaughter of Kamehameha the Great.

Shelli Kim has been named po‘o kula (head of school) for Nā Kula Kamaliʻi ʻo Kamehameha – KS preschools – after serving as interim po‘o kula.
Kim oversees the Hawaiian culture-based education provided to more than 1,640 keiki at 29 KS preschools statewide.
The KS alumnus holds a master’s degree in early education curriculum and instruction from New Mexico State University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Willamette University.
