Kamehameha Schools has served the Waiʻanae Coast with educational programs for more than 40 years and remains committed to support the community’s efforts in education. One of the ways that KS is working in the community is through the establishment of community learning centers.
The newly opened Early Learning Complex at the Community Learning Center at Mā‘ili (CLC-M) includes an Early Learning Kauhale, which will be a space where the community can access to a wide range of services and educational opportunities. The kauhale will provide operational, office and meeting spaces for early learning organizations that have long served the Wai‘anae Coast and are now centrally located in the learning center.
In addition to many of the providers with classroom space in the complex, the kauhale will provide office space for organizations such as ASSETS School, the Parent Child Development Corporation (through the Wai‘anae Coast Early Childhood Services), Learning Disabilities of Hawai‘i and Read to Me International. Those organizations will provide valuable early learning screening and assessments which will help families identify strategies to build upon strengths and address learning weaknesses for their children.
In addition to serving as a one-stop shop for early education needs, Kamehameha Schools is moving some of its services previously provided at its Community Learning Center at Nānākuli Center to the new Māʻili facility to widen its service area to meet the needs of the entire coast.
Starting in January, Wai‘anae Coast ‘ohana will find a range of programming and services at the kauhale, including:
Free Adult Computer Classes
Learn valuable personal and professional skills. Topics range from computer basics to Microsoft Office. Classes will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
