Kamehameha Schools has started construction on SALT – a curated retail and food destination opening this fall in Our Kakaʻako. 

Located at Keawe and Auahi streets, SALT will feature 65,000 square feet of commercial space housing an eclectic mix of roughly 50 local retailers, eateries and boutiques.  It will also include 20,000 square feet of creative places and open gathering spaces.

The commercial project is comprised of a collection of buildings, most of them adaptively reused to preserve the area’s history and sense of place. SALT was named after the salt ponds that once covered the area.

Along Auahi Street, the building that was once home to the Walk in Liquor Store has been completely gutted revealing its unique Quonset hut rooftops.

The finished spaces will be turned over to merchants this summer for tenant improvements. SALT will open in phases with a grand opening celebration slated for November 2015.

Our Kaka‘ako is a vision by Kamehameha Schools to transform Kaka‘ako into a people-centric, urban neighborhood that fosters new ideas, supports original voices, and empowers people to aspire. The six-story, 287-stall parking garage on the corner of Auahi and Keawe streets will be the first to open at SALT this May.

This Coral Street structure is the future home of popular Kakaʻako eatery, Hank’s Haute Dogs.
