As they wrapped up the school year, upperclassmen from Papa Mālama Honua learned about sustainable practices and picked up trash and debris on Mokauea, a traditional fishing island within the Kapālama Ahupua‘a (between Sand Island and the Airport Reef Runway) as part of their semester-long project.

KS Kapālama High School Science Department Head Chris Blake, kumu of the Mālama Honua science class, reinforces the importance of taking learning outside of the four walls of a typical classroom.
