E komo mai e nā kūpuna!  A little over 40 kūpuna spent part of the day with half of our sixth graders on Tuesday, November 27th.  This year, kumu and haumāna focused around the theme Mālama.  All students were mo’opuna for the day and greeted their kūpuna with mele haipule.  The day then began with “Mālama i ke ola kino” as the group got in some exercise with Zumba “kupuna-style”!  It was then “Mālama i ka pilina”;  Papa Laua’e were treated to mo’olelo with Kathy Collins and “Tida”!  Our last rotation was “Mālama i ke kupuna” where Uncle Kawika from Hui No Ke Ola Pono came and taught our haumāna lomilomi techniques.  As practitioners-in-training, they were able to practice on their kupuna different styles like kuekue, kaomi, and hakihaki.  Ahhhhh, so relaxing!  Kūpuna joined our keiki for lunch followed by a mini-outdoor concert featuring Mr. Ota’s band class and Kumu Pili’s lovely hula dancers.  A memorable event we treasure each year -just like our kūpuna.
