Now that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have authorized the emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric vaccine for children ages 5 to 11, we wanted to provide an opportunity for convenience and familiarity should ʻohana choose to vaccinate their keiki.
While not required at this time for students enrolled at Kamehameha Schools, getting vaccinated is highly encouraged. Beyond the most important benefit--protection of your health from severe outcomes, and reducing the likelihood of catching COVID if exposed--vaccination also has practical advantages including:
- Exemption from Department of Health quarantines if considered a close contact of a positive case (per DOH guidelines).
- If registered as vaccinated with KS:
- no longer needing to complete a daily wellness check and receipt of a “vaccination badge” which can be used daily during screening.
- exemption from any KS testing requirements (currently only grades 7-12, with grade 6 required testing beginning next year).
To assist in vaccination efforts, Kamehameha Hawaiʻi will continue our partnership with Bay Clinic to offer on-campus vaccination clinics during the school day as a service to ʻohana interested in having their keiki vaccinated. The timing will allow keiki to be fully vaccinated by Christmas.
Two on-campus clinics to administer the pediatric dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine have been planned on Friday, November 19 and December 10 during the school day. Scheduling and release from classrooms will be done through division offices. To sign-up, please indicate your interest for your keiki to participate in the vaccination clinic on our form by Monday, November 15 at noon.
All interested ʻohana will be provided with the relevant paperwork which must be completed and brought with your child on that day to participate in the clinic. Current 12 year old (and older) students can also participate in this clinic.
SIGN UP YOUR KEIKI TO RECEIVE A COVID-19 VACCINATION ON-CAMPUS
Individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks following their 2nd dose. Once the 2nd dose is received, ʻohana can register their keiki’s vaccination on Moʻomōʻali Olakino electronic health record at ohana.ksbe.edu. A vaccination badge is issued once fully vaccinated.
Other Community Clinics
- KTA will be holding a keiki clinic on Friday, November 12 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium. Schedule an appointment at ktasuperstores.com/pharmacy with a free gift for keiki ages 18 & younger.
- KTA will also have a keiki clinic on Saturday, November 20 at Waiākea High School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Schedule an appointment at ktasuperstores.com/pharmacy or walk-ins are welcome.
- Bay Clinic will also be holding a vaccination clinic open to our entire community on Saturday, November 20 on our campus at Laʻamea Gym from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for ʻohana who would prefer to accompany their keiki. Find the registration link on https://www.bayclinic.org/ in the ʻCOVID Vaccination Update’ section. Look for and select the 11/20 event to register.
