Nā Puke & Popcorn Virtual Author Visit: "SHINE!"

Feb. 10, 2021

Contributed by Shaundor Chillingworth

Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi Kula Waena will continue its Nā Puke & Popcorn Virtual Author Visit series with authors J.J. and Chris Grabenstein for their book, "SHINE!", on Saturday April 10, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

A description from the author's website:

Shine on! might be the catchphrase of twelve-year-old Piper Milly’s hero—astronaut, astronomer, and television host Nellie Dumont Frissé—but Piper knows the truth: some people are born to shine, and she’s just not one of them. That fact has never been clearer than now, since her dad’s new job has landed them both at Chumley Prep, a posh private school where everyone seems to be the best at something and where Piper definitely doesn’t fit in.

Bursting with humor, heart, science, possibilities, and big questions, Shine! is a story about finding your place in the universe—a story about figuring out who you are and who you want to be.

You can hear J.J. and Chris read the first chapter here:

Register by Monday, February 22 to get a free book and snacks. To register, visit https://tinyurl.com/jjandchris

There will also be a student in-person book club meeting held as part of the event.

The Nā Puke & Popcorn series is an opportunity to encourage keiki and their ʻohana to read together at home.
