Nā Lani  'Ehā

Nov. 19, 2018

Contributed by Thomas Jones

Founded by Kumu Hula Leinaala Kalama-Heine, Nā Lani ʻEhā is an annual concert that brings together four hālau to honor the musical talents of the royal siblings: Kalākaua, Liliʻuokalani, Likelike, and Leleiōhoku.  Renown in their day for their individual compositions, this series help celebrate our aliʻi beyond their royal capacities and in to their lyrical capabilities.  Each hālau is tasked with chanting an oli, performing a hula, and sing an acapella arrangement either in honor of or composed by their respective assigned aliʻi.  This year Kamehameha Schools Maui honored Leleiōhoku and took the stage along side three other hālau: Nā Pua Lei o Liko Lehua (Niuliʻi Heine), Hālau Nā ʻIwa Haʻa I Ka Lani (Tatiana Fox-Tseu), and Ke Kiaʻi o ka Lamakū (Kāwika Mersberg).
