More than 3,500 Kamehameha Schools alumni converged on the Kapālama campus to reconnect and reflect on Pauahi’s legacy, as part of Alumni Week 2019. “Kū Lōkahi, Kū Ha‘aheo – Stand in Unity, Stand in Pride” was the theme for this year’s event.

“Reflecting back at the week, I am humbled to witness the strength and unity of our Kamehameha alumni ‘ohana,” said Pono Ma‘a, interim executive director of the Pauahi Foundation and director of Alumni Relations. “It’s celebrations like Alumni Week that serve as a reminder of the many opportunities we have received as nā pua a Pauahi.”

Held June 3 through 9, reunion week honored classes with graduating years ending in four and nine with a variety of activities including a golf tournament, two ‘āina tours, a Taste of Kamehameha culinary competition, a Talent Night, a Kūpuna Pā‘ina, and the always-popular Alumni Lū‘au.

New for this year was the Alumni Marketplace, which featured alumni merchants and small businesses selling food, clothing and other products.

Thursday was competition day with the best overall awards going to the class of 1964’s “Cold Pake Ahi” for the Taste of Kamehameha and the musical performance from the class of 1984 for Talent Night.

Hosted by the class of 1990, the Alumni Lūʻau on Saturday brought over 1,700 alumni together for some ‘ono grinds, entertainment and nonstop dancing.

The action-packed week is the result of a collective effort by the Alumni Week Planning Committee, Campus Operations staff and more than 500 volunteers.

“Congratulations to all classes celebrating a reunion, and a big mahalo goes out to our staff and the many volunteers involved in creating a memorable experience for our alumni,” added Ma‘a.
