Nā Hīmeni Kalikiano is a monthly offering of mele and pule led by nā kahu of Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha. These familiar songs and heartfelt prayers help us grow our relationship with Ke Akua, grounding our daily lives in love, service and spiritual discipline.
Looking back at the life of Queen Liliʻuokalani, her faith, resilience, and compassion anchored her reign even during the most tumultuous times. Her heart was broken at the quick dismissal of her kingdom by foreign businessmen — a kingdom she pledged to protect at all costs. One can only imagine the great despair she experienced.
When someone is going through depression or anxiety, life can start to feel off-center in ways that are hard to explain. Their spiritual footing, their emotions, even their sense of mental clarity can all feel shaken. And sometimes, those heavier thoughts — especially the ones that pull toward self judgement, self-criticism and sometimes, self-harm — can slip in and make everyday life feel overwhelming. These experiences are real, and they deserve tenderness, not judgment.
In moments like these, the Holy Scriptures can become a gentle place to rest. They remind us that God created each of us with intention and goodness, that our lives were never accidental. When we turn toward the Lord — seeking His comfort, His truth, His steadying presence — we often find that His peace begins to settle back into our hearts and minds. It doesn’t erase the struggle, but it meets us right in the middle of it, offering hope and grounding.
