Our Kumuola Marine Science Education Center also provides opportunities for students to lead work taking place at the loko iʻa.
KS Hawaiʻi senior Dominic Lohekamakaula Christensen is a student research aide who spent the summer at Kumuola studying fish assemblages at the loko i’a. As an avid diver, he took naturally to surveying fish and helped compile the fishpond's first dataset on loko i’a fish diversity, abundance, and biomass. His work continues to grow the understanding of our resources and helps inform the future vision for these loko i’a.
Check out his story and the cool way Kumuola allows students to unlock their passion to serve their unique purpose and kuleana.
